RUN GREEN IN HONOLULU

Be Green on the Course: Aid Station Etiquette That Helps Everyone

When you’re mid-race, laser-focused, and grinding out those miles, the last thing you want is to dodge a pile of crumpled cups or get tangled in the aid station shuffle. That’s where a little etiquette goes a long way — for you, your fellow runners, and the volunteers keeping everything running smoothly.

Cleanliness and courtesy are the name of the game. Here’s how you can help:

✅ Grab Smooth, Go Clean

Approach smart: As you near an aid station, take a peek behind you, move toward the side you’ll grab from, and signal your choice (“Water!” or “Electrolyte!”). Volunteers will thank you.

Hold it low: Grab your cup from the middle or bottom to keep things neat and spill-free — and avoid toppling the stack for the next person.

🚶 Keep It Moving

No sudden stops: If you need a moment to sip or regroup, move past the table first. The aid station isn’t the place for a full-on picnic!

Stay aware: Keep your lane and watch for other runners doing the same. Smooth flow = happy race.

🗑️ Trash the Right Way

Hit the bag, not the trail: Drop your used cup in the trash bags provided just beyond the station. If you miss, please go back or carry it to the next one.

No bags nearby? Just tuck it until you find one. Every cup picked up by a volunteer is time and energy spent that could’ve gone toward cheering you on.

💚 BYO Bottle or Cup? Even Better.

We love seeing runners bring their own bottle or collapsible cup. It’s lighter on the planet and on our cleanup crew.

Our self-serve water taps are set up to make refills fast and easy — so if you’ve got a reusable on board, you’re already winning. Less waste. Less mess. More sustainability. Big high five.

🙌 Respect the Volunteers

These folks show up early, stay late, and power the whole event with high-fives and hydration. A quick “thanks” and a tidy toss go a long way.

Small Effort, Big Impact

Being green on the course isn’t about perfection — it’s about giving a little thought to the people and planet around you.

So grab smooth. Stay aware. Toss smart. Or better yet, refill and keep your cup all the way to the finish.

We’ll see you at the next mile. Clean, cheerful, and crushing it.
