2019 Kalakaua Merrie Mile Elite Field

The Kalakaua Merrie Mile in Waikiki, is road racing at its finest and purest.
An incredible field of international Olympians and top 1500m and mile runners will compete at the 2019 Kalakaua Merrie Mile.
The event is run as a gender challenge. The women get a head start and the first to cross the line, irrespective of gender wins!

Edward Cheserek Kenya 1994
Defending Kalakaua Mile champion and a professional for Skechers Performance. In college, Cheserek matched Prefontaine’s record of three cross country national titles, before stepping forward to become the most decorated NCAA men's Division 1 athlete of all time.
Nick Willis New Zealand (1983)
Nick Willis has competed many times for New Zealand’s Olympic team. He earned silver at the 2008 Olympics, before receiving bronze in a tactical 1500m at the 2016 Rio Olympics. This will be his third time racing along the flats of Kalakaua Avenue.
Leonard Bett Kenya 2000
The only male competitor born this millennium. Leonard Bett is a prominent junior level steeplechaser. In 2017 he went undefeated in the 2000m SC, winning the Kenyan World Youth trials in 5:28
Craig Huffer Australia 1989
Craig Huffer is an Adams State alum, and sub-four minute miler from Australia. He had much success as a junior, at age 18 he won Australia’s most competitive mile race - the Leonora Golden Gift. At 19, he became Australia’s fourth fastest junior of all time in the 1500m, running 3:39 at the Sydney Track Classic.
Amanda Eccleston USA (1990)
Amanda Eccleston is a professional miler for Brooks. While at the University of Michigan, she was a national champion in the DMR (2013), 5th place in the NCAA Indoor Championships, and a two-time Big Ten Champion in the 1500m and mile.
Shannon Osika USA 1993
Shannon Osika is a professional runner for Nike. This will be her second time racing in Honolulu - as she ran the first installment back in 2016, placing fifth.
Rachel Schneider USA 1991
Rachel Schneider is a versatile mid-long distance runner representing Under Armour. She is a two-time Camel City Elite Mile winner, and the runner-up at the 2018 USA 5000m Championships.
Jacob Krop Kenya (2001)
