Candes is the President of Gentry Pacific and gives back to the community through scholarships at the University of Hawaii and generous donations to Punahou school. The first residents of Hawaii (but not born in Hawaii) to cross the finish line were Nathan Carlson and Polina Babkina. Not much separated the male and female residents winner, and the two are in fact engaged to be married! The two met after competing in The Hapalua – Hawaii’s Half Marathon in the spring.
Babkina placed fifth overall in the women’s race and was only 1 min 1 sec behind her fiancé and they only realised how close they finished after meeting up past the finish line.
